Interpretation of What Is Happening in Paper Space

Hi!

Please, could you help me to understand what is happening with notes and dimensions in paper space? How to scale the title block combined with the drawing to fit paper size ANSI D (34 x 22)?

In model space, notes and dimensions triple with different sizes when clicking on them. Something similar is happening in paper space. What is the reason?

Hi,

>> How to scale the title block combined with the drawing to

I can only answer this question, the correct way is to draw a title-block and border which has exactly the size you need.

Then create a new layout, set it's paper-format to this size and insert the title-block (and border if separated) with a scale of 1.

After this use the existing viewport (or create a new one) and define (with zoom, pan and setting it's scale) the area of the model-space you want to see.

To answer the other questions than please upload the dwg and describe what you want to have different.

If it's just the question why you get multiple displays of one object with different size when selected then this object has assigned to be annotative + multiple annotation scales assigned (>>>details<<<).

This is happened because you're dimension is Annotative

Hi,

I'm again guessing ... you have issues with annotative objects.

Please try:

  • make sure to do a double-click inside the viewport (so you can access model-space entities)
  • then in the property window change the annotation scale to 1" = 1'-0"

This looks then like this:

You can see it in the model space. If you click on dimensions or notes, it makes them tripled with three different font sizes, which shouldn't be. In paper space, this thing constantly exists without clicking anywhere. I assume that is something connected to the annotative character of dimension and text styles.

Well, please see my first message and first guess, you have annotative objects and these have assigned multiple anno-scales. When you select then you'll get this display so you know which objects are assigned to how many anno-scales.

I also have shown you a link to the help about annotative objects and my last message showed you how to get this one layout/viewport working as I think you want/need it.

Thank you. It works perfectly for the paper space, but what can I do in the model space to fix tripling?

Please read the help about how annotative settings work. If you don't want them then

  • remove the annotative scales from the objects
  • turn off SELECTIONANNODISPLAY (but you then won't see which scales the objects are assigned to)
  • don't select them (because this only appears when you select them)

Dear Alfred,

I understand that two additional objects appear beside everyone annotative because I assigned three annotative scales for each of them. I don't recall me doing this. Could you please give me a hint at what moment of drawing development this could happen? I have got the single text style I use in that drawing for notes and dimensions. How could it come to three annotative scales?

I can only suggest again to read the help about how annotative objects work, this would give you a lot of answers to the questions you showed here.

If you have text-styles and dimension-styles set to be annotative before you started or you imported them from other files or you changed them later to be annotative or you made the dimension- and text-objects annotative later can't be analyzed now.

I am sorry, I feel like after some time of studying AutoCAD and drafting practice my knowledge about what is happening with annotation objects in model space and in paper space has not changed significantly. For example, for dimensioning, I see that there are several variables for annotative objects such as height in paper space, text style, dimension style including text style, annotation scale, etc. that can be changed in order to get different results. I have realized that relationships between all those contributors are still not clear to me. In other words, I don't see the full picture and hence can't be sure about my skills. For example, it is easy to make many layouts, viewports in one drawing. I have not decided whether it is better to dimension in model or paper space. I have 2d drawing attached.

Could you please see into it and say where is my main luck of knowledge with annotative objects?

Could you please let me know what approach to this problem allows me to get to the bottom in the learning of the annotation scale?

I can use standard text styles and figure out the text height in the model space to see it in the proper size in paper space but I am not looking for shortcuts and want to use all available instruments.

Thank you in advance.
