Install True Type fonts

I am would like to use the Windows installed Simplex Regular font (simplex_.ttf) located in the C:\Windows\Fonts.

As far as I can tell, this is already installed in Windows (MS word finds it).

All I see in AutoCAD 2019 & 2021 is simplex.shx.

According to Autodesk Knowledge center it should be available: How to install a font into AutoCAD | AutoCAD | Autodesk Knowledge Network

What is missing? Why doesn't Autodesk see this font?

did you follow these?

1) AutoCAD reads TrueType (.ttf) fonts that are installed in the operating system. TTF files do not go into AutoCAD's own Fonts folder. Copy .ttf files into

2)copy here C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 20xx\Fonts

Simplex.TTF is automatically used in MTEXT (and multi-line Attributes I believe) with your setting in SET to the SHX version. It's always been like that. IN AutoCAD you do not get to select it to use anywhere else.

Same applies to all the other core SHX files that Autodesk provides TTF copies of.

You can't change the behavior. But you can ask Autodesk for that ability in the future here https://www.autodesk.com/company/contact-us/product-feedback

1) and 2) seem contradictory, but I have tried both, without success.

I have had access to a TTF simplex on another machine, but I did not configure it.

I'm trying to determine how this is done.

I would be surprised if true and the TTF is from Autodesk as bundled with AutoCAD.

I'm not saying it was from Autodesk, but it really did exist, I used it, and would like to use it or the windows TTF version of simplex. The help documentation leads me to believe this is possible, but something is missing.

Well, if it is a 3rd party free or purchased TTF then I would expect it to work as all TTFs intended inside AutoCAD: you'll need to grab it from where ever you used it last or search the web for a link or download so you can get done what you desire.

I would like to focus on the "simplex_.ttf" that comes with windows, because no additional searching is required, it's in hand, and should be available to anyone working on a windows machine.

I don't see why this pre-installed True Type Font isn't already available in ACAD.

All the documentation I've reviewed leads me to believe it should be accessible if it's in C:\Windows\Fonts, it should be accessible in CAD.

This is not the case.

For the sake of discovery, if anyone can show me how to install any .ttf file, just pick any one you like in existence, it would be appreciated and may lead me to the original stated goal.

No such font exists from Microsoft: it is an AutoCAD installation addition if it is one of these (see image below). Or you picked it up from a 3rd party creator.
