Install ACAD 2019 on D: drive only

Just built new PC with 500Gb M.2 boot drive and 5Tb SATA 😧 Drive, so I am trying not to clutter up my M.2 C: drive. During the Install, I picked a folder on my 5Tb 😧 drive to hold the program files. After activation, I checked my C: drive and see several folders from Autodesk (37 folders and 132 files with Autodesk in the name). The 😧 drive has 322 folders with 4128 files in the Program Files folder, so it looks like most of the files went there. Maybe the help file went to the C: drive?

So my question, could I uninstall ACAD 2019 and get all or most on the 😧 drive after a reinstall? Or, is this somewhat normal to split the install to both drives when I pick the 😧 drive.

TIA

Hi,

>> After activation, I checked my C: drive and see several folders from Autodesk

Not all can be installed in individual configurable folders, some files are installed in folders based on your operating system and your user settings.

E.g. as long as your user folder is on C:\users\<your login> you can't expect that Autodesk installed user-specific files not on C: 😉

BTW: if C: has 500GB and especially is an SSD drive I would never install applications on a slower drive (which by default is the case either when c: is an SSD, or at least a 500GB drive is slower than a 5TB disk).

Thanks for the reply, Alfred. You are correct, my M.2 drive does hold my Users stuff by Win10 default (my first time using Win10). It looks like a few other ACAD files and folders are also on the M.2 drive.

I guess I'm a little gun shy to install all programs on the M.2. My 6 year old PC had a 90Gb SSD boot drive and even being careful, it was almost full with Win7 and several other apps installed. I may start installing SW on the M.2 and hope the prices drop in a few years if it gets full. It's a home PC and I don't really do much ACAD on it.

Hi,

Yes, because my sample with the users folder was just one example of many occurrences (C:\ProgramData, C:\Program Files\Common Files; C:\Program Files (x86); ....) all these files are to be installed in folders defined by the operating system.

You always have the chance to uninstall a program and reinstall it on another space, but I would not start that way, because having 300GB free of fast disk space and using slow space instead does not make you happy over the time 😉
