Inputting OS co-ordinates on to .dwg drawing

I have previously done a topo survey on 180 catchpit lids and now required to put them on a .dwg drawing. The client has supplied me with the track layouts on which I need to plot these surveyed co-ordinates. Do not know where to start and also it seems that the co-ordinate system with autocad 2019 is different to the one I used during the surveying (OS).

Geographic coordinate systems are supported by AutoCAD Map 3D or Autodesk Civil 3D, not in plain/Vanilla AutoCAD.

May I ask which coordinate system is "OS"?

Can you show the data (at least a few items) you get, so we know what you see...

Did you tie any of the existing features from the client's file when you tied the catchpit lids for points of reference? If you did you just need to match those points up with the drawing the client gave you. You can do this in a separate file and copy them into the client file as a block so they don't change position, just insertion point and orientation. Once in the correct position, the block can be exploded. You can also externally reference (XREF) the client drawing into your drawing and move and rotate your points to match their coordinate system.

Can you attach your file and the file given by the client so we can see what you are working with?

Os stands for Ordnance Survey (UK) - which is the co-ordinate system I used while surveying

And which coordinate system and which units are used for your dwg-file?

 

The UNITS for your dwg-file is set to "Unitless", I can only guess that it should be meter.

I don't see an geographic coordinate system assigned to your dwg-file (which means you are not using Map3D and not using Civil3D or you missed to assign it).

Thank you for you reply, does that mean that I would have to have autocad 3d civil to do what I need to do? I'm not sure what co-ordinate system was used? I have tried to set a geographical location and set to Ordnance Survey - i have also tried to import my easting and northing values through 'concatanate' but does not do anything on autocad

It would make things easier as Civil 3D as well as Map 3D have tools to transform objects from one coordinate system to a different one. As your drawing seems to be measured in meter, your surveying points (using system "Ordnance Survey (UK)") are measured in degree (lat/long) you need something that does that transformation from lat/long to your dwg with meter.

 

It might me an option that you insert your points into a new dwg-file, then insert this dwg-file into your existing file (will be then an AutoCAD block) and now move/rotate/scale this block to match with your drawing (you'll need some reference points for that workflow). Also command _ALIGN might help to do this.

 

But I do not know how big the difference between exact transformation and this linear transformation is then and how accurate you need your result.
