Importance of hardware requirements

Greetings. I support several clients with AutoCad and personally seem see a correlation between the number of support calls I get from clients that stick hard and fast to your hardware requirements on their system builds and the ones that don't. Specifically when it comes to Windows 10 version upgrades. 

I have not had any of my clients that are using required hardware have problems when a new version of Windows 10 comes out but clients that have non-listed video cards, motherboards, etc seem to have various unusual issues each time Windows Comes out with a new version update. 

My question is if my observations are isolated to my clients or does the hardware requirements make that much difference in your testing of OS versioning?

I'm not sure if your question is directed at Autodesk or just a generalized request for a response.  in my experience, having certified video cards help, as for any other hardware, and even having non certified cards does not make the product unusable.   the only factor I consider with the machines we order now days is the video card, previously, we built our machines with whatever seemed to work well, and was not tied to anything Autodesk tested or certified.  so to answer your question, in response to the machines and hardware we have and windows updates I have seen no difference in compatibility with Windows updates,  all of our systems continue to function, whether using uncertified hardware or not.

These types of issues can be expected and is not specific to this specific set of your clients.

Compared to standard Windows software, AutoCAD works more directly with computer hardware like graphics card and printer drivers.  So it is not surprising that changes in Windows OS updates will more likely impact AutoCAD that is running on systems that do not meet the AutoCAD hardware requirements.

Getting the most up-to-date drivers from the graphics-card or printer company is going to be the first suggestion. And for graphics-specific issues, running the GRAPHICSCONFIG command and disabling line smoothing and high-quality geometry may help users with older graphics-cards by not taxing the card GPU
