import job complete?

Anonymous
Not applicable

I 3D files from time to time and some are a bit large. Taking a few minutes to open.

Is there someway for AutoCAD to let you know when the import job is done?

Maybe the balloon that says "import job complete" could pop up so you could see it without having to cursor over it.

Please let me know it there is another way to be alerted on completion of the import job.

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

When I import into AutoCAD, I do receive a notification when the file is complete.  These are my InfoCenter settings for Balloon notifications. Can you compare with yours in OPTIONS?

For 3DS files, when they successfully import I get notice at the command line:

Hi John,

Thanks for the response

Yes I am a new on this forum and thanks for the welcome.

My settings are the same as yours for the "Info Center"

But I get no feedback at the command bar as you have shown.

I know it should not matter but I am working with Parasolid and Step files.

When I start a job in the lower right corner this icon pops up and flashes.

It looks like a sheet of paper with an orange arrow    import icon.pngprogress.pngcomplete.png

In order for me to see the status I have to move my mouse over the icon.

If I hover over the icon with the mouse the message does not update.

I have to move the mouse over, then off, then back over the icon to get it to update.

The files that I have been working with take a minute or two to open and popup status would be nice.

Thanks

Hi @Anonymous,

I guess I have never hovered over the notification.  If you don't do the hover, do you then get a popup notification?

Is it possible to do a Screencast that shows the behavior so I am certain that I doing the exact same actions?

I downloaded screencast and installed it.

recorded how I import the file. viewed it, it saved to somewhere online.

Got a email

screen cast1.PNG

the link gave me this: (and yes I was logged in at the time)

cant access.PNG

What???? to much trouble for now.

either way here we go:

step by step this is what i do.

1. click on File on the menu bar

2. click on Import...

3. Navigate to the file I need to import.

4. Select it with the mouse and press enter.

The icon in the lower right corner flashed a few times.

No popup text at the icon until I mouse over it.

Nothing at the command line either.

And my setting are the same as yours for the balloon notifications.

HI @Anonymous,

For the Screencast problem, when you save the file for upload, you need to assign a title and then for the forum, mark the video as Public. Then you should be able to share it.

What version of AutoCAD are you using? Is it fully up-to-date? I wish I could see your video as I am not able to duplicate this behavior.

Have you checked TRAYNOTIFICATION?

Hi John,

Been quite busy so sorry for taking so long. I tried again with the screencast and I think it may have worked.

As for "Traynotification" did you mean TRAYNOTIFY (System Variable)? Mine was set to 1 and that should display notifications. I hope that the screencast works and that it is helpful.

Hi @Anonymous,

Yes, TRAYNOTIFY - dang autocomplete gets in my way - I do apologize for any confusion.  I have been doing some research and see that this issue has been logged in the past. I will bring this again to the attention of the team so they can revisit the issue.

Thank  you for your patience.

John,

Thanks for all the effort.

I hope that there will be some resolve on this issue in the future.

I love the power of autocad now days.

I started with 2.62 and was stuck on 2006 for years then the company purchased 2016 and have updated every

year so far.

Thanks again

I am having the same issue - every couple weeks I receive a high detail 3D .JT file from a vendor, which takes my (brand new) computer with 2019 ACAD up to 15 minutes to import. In ACAD 2016 I would get a balloon notification with hyperlink to insert the object when the import completed, now I have to keep checking every few minutes.
