Image frames plot even though IMAGEFRAME is set to 0 or 2

On some drawings, my image frames plot even though IMAGEFRAME variable is set to 0 or 2. In order to get them to not plot, I need to set IMAGEFRAME to 1 and then back to 0 or 2. It then works correctly, but why does it not work the first time?

I think that at some point in the past I have reset the variable from 1 to 0 using the 'reset all' option on the System Variable Monitor, and I think the change to the variable didn't 'stick'.

Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions beyond just checking on Plot Preview every time I run a plot?

I haven't upgraded to 2022 yet, but that's an interesting observation.  It happens seemingly randomly and I'm not sure how to reproduce the problem.  Next time it does, I will try checking the transparency.  I have a scan of my signature that I cut and paste and Transparency is already set to Yes.

Same problem using 2024. Variable set to off (0) but I have to turn it on (1) then back to off in order to not print frame.

AutoCAD 2025 has the same issue. Imageframe has to be set to 1, then to 0 again.

2025 has the same issue - imageframe keeps plotting despite IMAGEFRAME = 0.
- giving the image object background colour doesnt fix it

- setting it to a layer that uses background colour doesnt fix it

- switching to imageframe 1, then back to 0 no longer fixes it (worked in 2024)

Reread the guidance above please: use FRAME command 100% of the time and always, usage is explained in HELP too if you want a deep dive.

Here we are in 2025 and still having this problem. The above solution was unfortunately not a solution in this case.  😕   Wipeout it is!

Setting IMAGEFRAME to 1 and then back to 0 resolved the issue for me.

Thank you for the reply but sadly this doesn't work. (Civil 3D 2024. )

I mentioned this before, but it's been so long I am not sure where it went. Another option that sometimes works. When IMAGEFRAME is set to 0 and you can't visually see the border, but it still shows up when you print to pdf, I have to go into the properties after selecting the image, go down to "Misc" in properties and change the Background transparency to Yes. Mine is always default to No. Not sure what a "Bitonal image" is in the tooltip hover, but I know it makes my image frames go away when nothing else seems to. This was a new step I've had to do since Civil 3D 2023-2026.

Darn, I was excited for that to work but no luck. I think whoever solves this should win a Nobel prize or something.  😕

I have tried absolutely everything suggested in this thread and starting to think it may have something to do with the image itself, how it was created, etc. There is another image (of a colour legend) on the same drawing that I recreated and it does NOT print with the line around it now. I'm going to dig around a little more. The misbehaving image was originally a PDF that was exported to JPG. The legend without the lines is an image I captured with the snip tool and saved as JPG.

OK, so my thought about it being an issue with the image itself (in this case) proved to be correct. The original image that printed with lines around it (regardless of imageframe settings) was a JPG extracted from a PDF. I re-exported the PDF image to TIF this time and there is no line. (Imageframe set to 0.) Maybe a solution? (Or at least a fix in some cases.)

imageframe 1
imageframe 0

Save the file

You need to be on the 2d wireframe view (Not Realistic) to plot it without the frame.
