Huge File Size Increase When Inserting JPEGS

Hello,

Just curious as to why the AutoCAD file size gets so big.

I have an AutoCAD drawing that has 8 layouts; the last two are blank waiting for 2 jpeg images.

The dwg = 425 kb

jpeg1 = 277 kb

jpeg2 = 194 kb

Once I insert both jpeg files using the Edit > Paste Special method (selecting metafile)

The dwg = 2527 kb

I used jpeg as they were the smallest file size option.

Is there a reason for the huge file size increase?

Thanks,

Mark

That is how the program works: it removes all compression from inserted raster files. That is why the ability to reference images instead keeps DWG files sizes in check.

Have you tried placing image in the clipboard and accepting
the default actions inside the Past Special dialog?

To place image into clipboard:
Open image FROM your favorite file manager TO your favorite web browser.
Right-click on image and select "Copy".

???

Hi Scot,

I'm not sure I understand what you're describing.  In Windows Explorer, I selected the jpeg and right picked "Copy".

In the drawing, I did the "Paste Special" and put it in, but it was just like an icon of the image and not the image.

Best regards,

Mark

I even picked the jpeg in the Windows Explorer and right picked Open With Internet Explorer.  I picked Edit > Select All, then Edit > Copy.

I went to the AutoCad drawing, but Paste Special was not an option, it was grayed out.
