how to use recap?

Hi Everbody,
I have already started to use poincloud with recap in autocad. I have some main usage questions. First of all does autocad need extra plugin for recap after download recap program? If not why i can  not find any point cloud tab in window to see the tools. Secondly, i can take part of point cloud by usin 'pointcloudcrop' command but i can not movethe section slice forward or backward, is there any commands to do these moves? And ı actually want to see plan section in one view and section of pointcloud building in other view to control architectural drawing  in vertical and horizantal way in meantime. Now when i cut poincloud i can not see both. Briefly i really need learn about tools and properties of recap in autocad. and ı just could not find any sources to have answer for my questions.

Hi, oin_07,

I can at least help with the first part. You should have Recap tools on the Insert ribbon of the toolbar. Basically, you can either attach the point cloud, or open the point cloud in Recap and manipulate there.

The ACAD "Move" command will move the entire point cloud, regardless of the cropping. I'm not sure if there is a reason for wanting to move the point cloud...it may be difficult to coordinate any further external updates.

As far as the views, you can set different viewports to different views, and tile those views...all located within the View ribbon.

As far as your question about ReCap and needing a plugin, as kfuhrman01 said, the tools for inserting point clouds are already available in AutoCAD and won't require any special plugins. ReCap is where you will import, edit, export your data for use in AutoCAD.

And another question about recap program itself. Is it posibble to create animation movie from pointcloud in Recap? I could not find any tools in program for it or even answer or video about that on the sources. But still I might be wrong with the idea that it does not have any settings for animation movie.

Your best bet for animation may be through Navisworks...assuming you mean a walk-through, or fly-through type of video?
