How to snap perpendiclar to previous segment while drawing a line/pline segment and still in the command

When drawing a line in an arbitrary direction how do you get ACAD to snap perpendicular to the previously drawn segment while still in the line drawing command?  For example: LINE command -> click and draw in any direction -> click to add vertix -> now I want to draw the next segment perpendicular to the previously drawn segment, while still in the line drawing command.  I know there's a way to do this as I've had it happen unintentionally a thousand times, but now whatever unknown combination of snap settings and modes that made this happen is not selected and I need it back.  I've flailed around with snapping & tracking settings plenty to no avail.  What's the combination of settings and actions that enables this behavior?

Use Polar Tracking method.

At command prompt enter the following:

Options

Then select tab: Drafting

Under section Auto Track Settings: Check Display polar tracking vector and Display Auto Track tooltip

Next enter the following command:

Dsettings

Then select tab: Polar Tracking

Check Polar Tracking On (F10)

Under Increment Angle Settings select 90

Under Polar Angle measurement select Relative to last segment

Now you should be able to draw the next line segment perpendicular to the first by using Polar Tracking

Thank you I finally got it to work now!  The Relative To Last Segment option was the one I was missing.
