How to show overlapping plates with hidden lines

I want to show where two plates overlap a few inches by having the edge of the bottom plate shown in my layout as a hidden line. I drew 4'x7'x1/8" boxes to model these plates, and have tried various visual style settings. Is there an approach you would recommend?  Unfortunately I am not allowed to share an example of my drawing so I have tried to frame my problem as simply as I can.

advTHANKSance

Can you share screenshots or a video of what it is you are trying to do? This is a good recorder to use https://knowledge.autodesk.com/community/screencast

Basically, this in 3d. I am otherwise not allowed to share out company documents.

Modify the Hidden visualstyle to show Occuluded Edges with a Dashed Linetype.

I will accept as a solution to help others and because I was not more clear in my post. I tried this, however these plates are part of a larger assembly for which I do not want to show occluded edges.

Thank you

To show overlapping plates with hidden lines in a technical drawing or engineering illustration, you can use the following steps:

  1. Draw the outlines of the plates that overlap, including any visible edges and corners.

  2. Identify the hidden lines where the plates overlap. Hidden lines represent edges or surfaces that are not visible in the final assembly.

  3. Use dashed lines to represent the hidden lines. These dashed lines should be drawn where the hidden edges or surfaces would be if the plates were transparent.

  4. Ensure that the hidden lines do not intersect with the visible lines of the plates. They should only extend to the point where the hidden edge would connect with the visible edges.

By following these steps, you can effectively depict overlapping plates with hidden lines in your technical drawings, making it clear which parts are hidden from view in the final assembly.
