How to show 2D section drawings from 3D model in hidden view rather than wireframe view?

Hi,

I am trying to make sections from a 3D model of a building but when I create 2D sections using the section pane all lines in the model show up in the section in a wireframe view. I’m wondering if there is a way to create sections in hidden view so that only the lines in the direction of the section plane chosen and in the correct order (in front or behind different objects) are shown?

You could try doing a Boolean subtract of a large box from the building and then create the vie you want.

Hi,

sorry I’m quite new to autocad. Do you mean to subtract the part of the building that I don’t want to be shown in the section and then take the section from the remaining part?

I have done a bit of research and a few people said to do a view base and then view section but that was for 3d objects rather than 3d buildings. Do you know if this would work?

If the model is composed of solid objects (not just lines in space) you can create a box to cover the portions of the building that you do not want visible in the section view.  Subtracting the box will generate in effect a section view.  Be sure to make a backup copy of your file before doing the subtract!

What do you consider are the differences beteen  3d objects and 3d buildings?  Is it just a matter of scale?

I mean that the YouTube examples of this I seen were of solid model objects like parts instead of an example of a solid model buildings, not sure if that would make a difference. I will attach a photo of the example I looked at

Hi when I tried to select the part of the section that I wanted to keep to subtract it, because parts of the object were over the line it didn’t work. Instead I used slice to slice the section line which gave me the section. Although I found that the viewbase command and view section command worked better and could show hatching but thanks so much for your solution as I can show I tried multiple ways in my presentation
