For example I will draw a bridge cross section. this is different than drawing , say, a small machine part. I mean how can I adjust the scale of the space I am working at? and then to meters? or does it zoom in or out inifinitely so it doesnt matter?

Hi and Welcome to AutoCAD Forum,

>> how can I adjust the scale of the space I am working at? <<

generally in autocad always draw in 1:1 scale and nothing else. now when you want to get a certain detail on other scale like 1/20 , by plotting procedures ( scale factor ) you will get 1/20 scale. also you have to know that this scale MUST have a special dimensions and text style that fit such a purpose.
