AutoCAD 2000 question:
The "Select Shape File" dialog box keeps popping up when we open drawings.
How to we prevent this permanently?
Thanks!
Hi,
you get that dialog every time a drawing searches for an SHX file but does not find it.
If the SHX file is missing AutoCAD can't display the linetypes correct or shows text objects with another/wrong font.
Either you have that missed SHX-file, then place it in one of the AutoCAD support folders (or edit the options in AutoCAD and add a support folder to the folder the SHX file is stored).
If you don't have the SHX file first try to get it (ask the one who created that drawing) ... or change the linetypes which use this SHX to another linetype.

Sometimes, not always, a WBLOCK of your entire modelspace content to a new file can get rid of it if it is not used in the objects you select.
Not a permanent solution but a workaround is to have an app closing the dialog box automatically. See our freeware app here.
If you want to permanently ignore it and not know if there are missing SHX files, then the steps are:
To bring back the Missing SHX Files dialog and turn off the prompt in the future, do the following:
