I will say since I made this post 4 years ago, pressing the "tree view" gives you a lot of information but still doesn't completely solve the issues

I think our company's antique network and/ or other factors are generating this garbage. It appears and disappears on the same files.

Yes, that is the exact batch file coding. Any cure for this garbage?

I think you missed the first page. Lots of suggestions. Where's yours?

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Apparently, it was useful to the OP. It is the solution, after all.

If the original reference was brought in on a frozen layer (good practice so they can't be modified) then you will need to unfreeze that layer before you're allowed to delete the reference.

We always have a layer called "XREF" that we put Xrefs. Even with that layer frozen or off, I'm still able to right-click on the xref in my xref manager and then select detach.

But if works for anyone than it's definitely a GREAT IDEA!!  AutoCAD seems finicky (always).

Same here, but sometimes when the reference is "not found" it won't detach. I had this occur and when I unfroze my xref layer, I was able to detach the reference.

A lot of people understood the question. Some just don't understand the possible answers as they cover a variety of circumstances where this can take place. One solution does not fit all the causes.
