How to Chang just one dimension on a BLOCK

Hello All,

I am a novice, so I am wondering if someone can answer this question for me. I have spent hours trying to figure it out, Youtube it, look at answers on the Forum pages and NADA.

I have block images, IE cabinet door styles that I have drawn. I don not want to be drawing the same door style over and over to place in an elevation drawing. Ideally, I'd like to be able to import that one specific BLOCK and change its size to fit each cabinet box.

The problem I am having is that every method I have seen so far changes BOTH the length and the width (they all seem to be scaling the BOLCK). I just want to be able to change one, NOT BOTH. For example I have a BLOCK that is 18" wide X 42" high. I just want to be able to make the BLOCK 15" wide. So the finished total size would be 15" wide X 42" high.

HOW in the world can I do that? I would think this is a basic maneuver. Why can't I find it anywhere. Everything I have tried ends up altering the height of the BLOCK as well.

Is this impossible in AUTOCAD?

I would love a solution...and please explain it to me in LAYMAN terms. Thanks

Shaun

Hi,

>>  I just want to be able to change one, NOT BOTH.

type INSERT then select your block then modify one of X or Y scale factor to match your need and the other one keep it 1 .

You can create a block with 1x1 ... then scale it in x-direction by 15 and in y-direction with 42 ...either while inserting the block or afterwards by selecting your block and change the scale factors in the property window.

You might also create a dynamic block, however this needs a bit more experience and dynamic blocks are not loved by all users and could create issues when you export your dwg to other users/other CAD-systems.

As @imadHabash mentioned, a block when inserting has the possibility to scale X,Y and Z but only when the 'Uniform Scale' is not ticked:

scale block.pngscale block.png

I have used the 'CLASSICINSERT' command to show.

When a block is placed you can change the X,Y,Z scale from within the properties palette. Provided it has not been inserted with 'Uniform Scale' active.

This is an example of a dynamic block with no need to scale it. There are many tutorials on how to make one if you just google dynamic blocks . To operate it just click on it and select the arrows to stretch it. To edit it just type BEDIT you can change the layers or delete the dimensions without upsetting the current functionality just don't delete the height or width parameters(blue) . See below.
