Hi @Anonymous,

I see that you are visiting as a new member. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

Add the layer in your file and save the file. In the other drawing, open Design Center , browse to the first file and then drag the new layer into the drawing.

Let me know if this helps or if you need some screen captures.

Another method is just pick something on the desired layer, Ctl+Shift+C. (Copy with Basepoint) Pick a base point. Switch to your drawing without the layer, Ctl+V (Paste) then just pick a place to put the object. then you can either keep or delete the object. Layer is now in your drawing.

This is kind of a down and dirty approach.

It works, just know what you are copying.

If you select just a simple object you are doing great.

If you select a block, you will end up copying that block to your drawing as well.

If your source drawing has corruption, this method can easily copy some corruption.

The Design Center (Ctl+2 shortcut to luanch) As @john.vellek proposed is probably the cleanest method other than manually creating the layer in your new drawing.

Good Luck,

Another "Dirty Trick" is to Match Properties between drawings

1. Have both drawings open (i.e. the drawing with the desired layer, and the drawing with the layer needed)

2. In the "source drawing", enter the MATCHPROP command and select an object residing on the specific layer

3. Press and hold the "Ctrl" key on your keyboard, and then press the "Tab" key, and watch AutoCAD switch between drawings (and let go of the keyboard keys)

4. When "Ctrl+Tab" takes you to the drawing where you want your layer to reside, click on an object in the current drawing

The layer setting from the source drawing is now in the current drawing
