How do you join surfaces in 3d

In 3d, how can you join to surfaces and a surface and a solid?

i saw this link:

but can not follow this. what is space,  what is space tab, i don't have any space tab, or which space? and where is that button?

all i want is to join surfaces or surfaces with solids

Hi, The link you posted is for Autodesk Architecture.  There is another link at the bottom of that page which jumps you to an explaination of Architectural Spaces.

I am guessing that you are working with actual surface or solid objects and not architectural elements?

 

You cannot use the JOIN command on surfaces and solids but you can use the UNION command to unite solids or surfaces.  See >this< link for info on UNION.

ohh thanks yes i didn't realize it was autocad architecture.

well so i tried union command on two surfaces and it joins them but it gives error, saying it will loose all associativity

but instead, if i use group command, i dont get such error message.

and what is the difference between group command and union command for here?

Grouping objects is a tool used for selecting and maneuvering objects.  Grouped objects are not altered in any sense of design or structure.

When you UNION surfaces or solids they actually become a single design element or object.

Loss of associativity in surfaces can be a problem if you need to rely on the construction elements (lines, arcs, etc) for further development but if you have completed development of the objects that you are converting then associativity can usually be disregarded.
