How do you join a surface and a solid

I'm trying to join the piece on the left and right to the piece in the middle so it is one solid object. Nothing i do seems to work.

If you use Thicken and then select the surface to convert them to solids, you should then be able to use UNION.

It wont thicken the side pieces. "One was filtered out. No surface selected."

Yes, attached. Another solution would be to remove the faces of the solid piece that's attached but that doesn't seem to work either. It takes me on an endless loop.

The end pieces are regions. Try using CONVTOSURFACE to convert them to surfaces.  I looked at the edges where they meet the existing solid and they are not meeting very cleanly which will likely prevent you from simply using UNION. Perhaps giving them adequate thickness will let you do this but I am not convinced they will be very clean.

That worked thank you very much. Do you know why im not able to remove the faces of the solid piece thats in the file?

Hi @Anonymous,

You cannot just remove the faces but you can use slice to remove then ends or perhaps explore XEDGES to grab the lines that define the shapes.  You could then manipulate that linework and create new geometry from them.

You can also use CTRL-select to pick individual entities in the object if that helps.
