Right click on .DWG file, go to properties. Select Read Only. Anyone can make a copy of the file and write on it anyway.

I use Vault Professional from Autodesk.

[There are quite a few other threads on these Forums asking the same thing.  A Search for terms like "write protect" or "lock drawing" or similar things will give you a lot to plow through, if you want to know all the considerations, options and their limitations, etc.]

In general, AutoCAD provides an option of password protection to DWG files.
"Securityoptions" is the command and you may have a look for details in the HELP.
However, some said that it is a low level protection. You may convert your drawings to PDF, for instance, if you have serious concerns about the security for the contents of your drawings.

Elaborate please: do you want to lock the file on your own PC, on your company's server, or lock it for when you send it out to someone else outside of your organization?

None.

Nada.

Zip.

You share = they get. It's that simple. All the silly tricks you read on the web can be overcome if you do the same search again as the recipient of those silly-tricks files.

Contact your legal counsel then review your contracts with all recipients for all of your protections-needs, also consider paying for electronically signed files to send.
