how do I move objects or grouped things from one layer to another easily?

i've searched the forums, haven't found a good solution.

i'm doing blueprints and have created furniture items inside autocad with a furniture template.

if i use the block functions, i can't easily move the created object to another layer.  I have to exlplode > move to another layers > re-block.  this is not feasible when i want to move 10 objects from layer to layer.  I want to be able to highlight all 10 objects, move all of them to another layer in one action.

if i use the group function.  I can moved the grouped items easily enough from layer to layer.  However, when a copy and paste the group - the items become ungrouped.  Every time I want to copy something off my template in my drawing; i have to regroup them.  This is also a huge pain.

there has to be an easier way, isn't this a pretty basic need for autocad users?

thanks.

I think you need some basic instruction [this is a fundamental concept...].

In most cases, the parts of things that you are going to define into Blocks should be drawn on Layer 0.  Then they will take on the characteristics [color, linetype, etc.] of the Layers on which the Blocks are Inserted [or moved to, in your description].

Usually block components drawon at 0 layer , in this case it will take any other layer definition if you move it from layer to another .

Depending on your Object status .. you can try SELECTSIMILAR ( note Settings ) OR QSELECT commands to do that .

True ... Groups are not transferable between drawings .

Groups can be transferred between drawings using the free GroupManager from the Autodesk App Store.  In the source drawing use it's backup option, once the objects reach their destination, use the tools restore option.

If these tools make you more productive, please consider leaving a brief review with a ranking (up to five stars).
