How do I dimension identical viewports with same scale

Hi,
I have several identical viewports, with the same view and scale.

How do I dimension each viewport individually in model space using one layer?

I don't want multiple layers to freeze and I don't want to dimension in paper space.

Thank you!

Hello @Anonymous,

You can apply dimensions in paperspace or modelspace. I recommend using these steps:

  1. Create your "dimension" layer
  2. Use the Dimensions Styles Manager to create "New" Annotative dimensions style
  3. Select your preferences
  4. "Apply" & "Set Current"

Hi,

>> How do I dimension each viewport individually in model space using one layer?

you can start putting dimensions in your Model layout , is there any thing preventing you from that ?    we need to see your CAD drawing to check your viewports limits and give you a direct and proper solution .

@Anonymous  hi,

What do you mean identical viewports?  they have the same exact view?

the only way i know to distinguish between identical viewports is layers thus you will need to define some layers for dimensions.

Hi,

Not sure if that is really the best solution, you might create for each viewport a different scale like 1:1A, 1:1B, 1:1C

Now assigning an annotation scale 1:1A to the dimensions you want to see in the first viewport, 1:1B for the second viewport ...

So the scale 1:1 can be the same for all these viewports, the layers can stay the same, but if you are happy administrating these annotative scales, I would be scared getting such a drawing if I would have to work/modify it.

Yes, they have the same view.

Unfortunately I have too many viewports to create a layer for each one.

Yes, this might work. But I would be scared too.

I guess dimensioning in paper space is my only option.

thanks
