horizontal lines are jagged when printing

This problem just started happening recently. When I print from paper space all my horizontal lines are not smooth - they are jagged.  This is only happening from Autocad, and from any CAD file I open and print from.  The lines are drawn correctly, and as I said I have not had an issue until recently.  Any suggestions?

using what plot parameters and settings?
Is the problem limited to one file, or ALL files, even if you start a new file and draw a couple of horizontal lines with ORTHO on?

The jagged lines appeared when I would print from paperspace to our office printer - an Epson inkjet.  This was happening even when exporting to a pdf, however print lines looked fine when I printed from word or spreadsheets.  

 

Eventually, through many hours of troubleshooting I figured out that my printer heads needed calibration.    I didn't think of this since the problem seemed only evident when printing from CAD - so I assumed it was a CAD issue.  Nevertheless, after I calibrated the printer heads, (It took 4 or five rounds of calibration to do the trick), problem solved.  Amazingly, no one suggested this on any of the forums I read, and I had to call the print shop we buy our ink from to get that suggestion!

 

Anyway, thanks for the response.  Maybe this will help others?

Most printers I have dealt with ask you to calibrate / align the heads whenever you change an ink cartridge. Was this being ignored, or were the heads actually becoming misaligned before the ink ran out ?

Contact a repair service for your printer and find out for sure what the actual problem is.

I have had HP take my computer over 3 times checking my printer... They say nothing wrong with it...so they will not warranty it

It is an Officejet 7612.... I had an Autodesk person take my computer over... He said everything was fine... I re printed...had the same problem... Went to office max spent $300 on a new Epson printer....pull it out of the box....same issue... I'm at the end of my rope!!!!

PLOT to a PDF: see any jaggies there? Is not, print the PDF to your printer and see if any materialize. If you do, post your DWG file and that PDF here so we can all have a look.

Man if anyone can help.. It would be great... I have been dealing with this for 3 weeks... I have a new computer...new printer...new civil3d and cannot get it to work... I have talked to sooo many people... It's really got me down in the dumps...


The funny thing is... The guy that took my computer over last night printed my PDF on his end...said it looked good...he even printed straight from civil 3 d on his end and said it printed fine....

Could it be my brand new computer??? It should be well equipped to handle it... It's an HP z book....one of their top of the line computers that cost a small fortune....

Any reason you cannot plot to PDF yourself and perform the tests as I outlined in my last reply? Whatever else someone did on your PC has nothing to do with anyone here trying to help you out. This is not Autodesk support, just regular end users like yourself helping each other out.

Oh yes, definitely will be doing what you said when I get home. I work as a field land surveyor by day and drawings at night and weekends. I just don't have access to my computer right now.

I reinstalled 2017.......aligned the printer head on my new printer..........At first the printing errors looked so small that I was almost willing to overlook it but the last page had major errors.

So it's only the LOT45 outline that prints jagged? or do all lines plot jagged?
If it's just the LOT45 lines that's to be expected, your lines are not perfectly vertical: on the PDF they will look jagged, but to my laser printer your lines are absolutely smooth. See pictures of the paper prints.

If there is no fix for smoother lines on your inkjet printers settings or driver settings then you need a laser printer.

I reinstalled civil3d again.... It printed better but not perfect... But no, when it's bad the thick border...and lines separating my text on the far right will be obviously jagged..... Can it possibly be that the templates and drawings I am using were done in 2016 and now I'm using 2017??? I may redo a 2017 template tonight and see if it makes a difference
