im looking to start a course with autocad next year and i need to buy a laptop.i found a laptop with similar specs only the one is an 9th gen i7 and the other 9th gen i5.will the extra power of the i7 make that big of a differance or can i rather save some money and buy the i5?both processors run at 4GHz

Verify that the video card is certified and you have at least 8GB of memory. The i5 should be plenty of power.

Without knowing specifically what you will be doing it is hard to say for certain: 2D or 3D? Basic drafting & annotation or "heavy modeling"? But for general AutoCAD tasks, either one should be OK (I would go with the i7 if it were me, just to have the edge if needed) You also need to consider the graphics card - Nvidia or AMD dedicated card with 4GB or more Vram, and minimum 8GB system RAM, 16 or 32 would be better. This link will give you a good reference, keep in mind these are minimum requirements:

Hope this helps.

As others have said, the video card is what really matters. Either of the processors you named will work fine. Click the link provided by the previous commentor about video card specs.
