Help With Blocks

I am working a sewer manhole map.

I have created blocks for manholes to be modified by year ie 2018,2019,2020. The project became to large and now I need to change half the blocks I created and move them to a future years project.

I need to change the color and adjust the layer. Each time I try to modify half the blocks I have chosen I end up changing all the blocks that I created.

Is there a way to pull the Blocks I select and assign them to a different layer and apply that layers color?

I can change the layer of the blocks to the layer I desire(2019 year) , but when I freeze the layers I do not want (2020 year) I loose all the 2019 blocks that I assigned the 2019 layer I assigned.

My hope is that I can select the blocks I want and redefine them to a block I have made.

I did make Blocks by year, and I did make Layers by year. Then I match the years and I have the color system I desire.

If this doesn't make sense I can try to clarify. I am new and working with blocks and layers together has been  a bit of a struggle.

Hi,

If your blocks are all defined with geometry at layer e.g. 0 ... and some of your block-insertions are on layer 2019, some on 2020, then freezing layer 2019 should not freeze the block-insertions sitting on layer 2020.

For me that sounds like you have your block-content (the geometry within the block-definition) put on 2019 or 2020 layers, in that case that would be the source of your problem.

You might upload your dwg-file with some of the 2019 and some of the 2020 objects so we can look into it.

Hi,

your drawing contains macros, please understand that I block this (just to make sure I don't get a virus installed).

So my experience might be different to yours. You may also turn off MODEMACRO (>>>details<<<), that could already be a solution to your issue.

Then please understand that I don't know your project, and I can't spend hours of time to identify where all the geometry is, so I may miss some of the items you are referring to. But freezing layers looks good from what I can identify, the text as well as the outline for the text are freezing well.

But your newer blocks have issues, I opened block "2019 Manhole Label" in the blockeditor, their you have a block "Brick Manhole", but that block is on layer "0- 2020 Lined Manholes" which means

  • in the model your block is inserted on a 2019 layer
  • the block itself has objects on 2020 layer

...and so freezing any of these both layers means both are getting invisible.
