After leaving AutoCAD open and locking my computer, I come back to the attached error message "The configured Heidi driver cannot be loaded. Switching to default software driver."

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Autodesk Community and thank you for joining us for Answer Day!

Have you tried any of the recommendations in this article:

Error: "The configured Heidi driver cannot be loaded. Switching to default software driver." when launching AutoCAD

It sounds very similar to what you're experiencing.

I'd recommend you check the Certified Hardware list to make sure your graphics card is certified for your version of AutoCAD and your operating system, and update your driver to the certified version. (If your card isn't on the list, then go to the manufacturer's website and update your driver to the latest one that's available directly from them.)

Does this happen every time you lock the computer or let it fall asleep?

Hi @Victoria.Studley

Thank you for your response, I think I've purchased the wrong graphics card. I have a AMD FirePro W2100 2048MB which is on the list for AutoCAD 2015 on a Windows 7 64-bit but not for 2014. Is there a way to work around this or do I need to purchase a different graphics card?

Thanks again!

Hi @Anonymous,

I'd recommend visiting AMD's website and updating the graphics driver for your card to the latest available version. Have you tried that yet?

Hi @Anonymous,

Thank you for confirming your graphics driver is up to date.

Since the card is not on the certified list, could you try disabling Hardware Acceleration?

Additionally, have you tried any of the other recommendations in the original article I posted?

  • Run the installer for DirectX
  • Turn off the Windows Aero theme
  • Change the default printer on your system
