Hardware specification

I have a laptop with the specifications listed below. I occasionally use AutoCAD for creating 2D urban design diagrams, and I use government mapping and aerial photographs as a base. I’d appreciate advice on whether the graphics card will be adequate for my level of use. I realise that it is not certified or recommended by Autodesk.

5th Generation Intel Core i7-5500U Processor (4M Cache, up to 3.00 GHz)

Windows 8.1 (64Bit) English

8GB 2 DIMM (2x4GB) DDR3L 1600Mhz

1TB 5400 rpm SATA Hard Drive

NVIDIA GeForce 920M 4GB DDR3

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Urbandesignuser,

I think that video card will be more than sufficient for creating 2D mapping and aerial photographs.

I currently am running a 2 year old video card with 2GB of DDR3 and it handles images and 2D drawings just fine.

Pretty much every video card I have ran over the last 10 years has not been Autodesk Certified but it ran the software just fine.

One quick tip I have is to clip your aerial images down to the area your working in, this will help keep your drawings fast.
