Group Command Doesn't Work

I get the "A group with the same objects already exists.Would you like to group anyways?"

1. Its a new drawing and nothing has been grouped... so???????

2. Even when I try to do "yes" when it asks, nothing happens... so??????

3. Ctl+Alt+A (which supposedly turns group on/off) doesn't turn group on or off, it does nothing... so??????

Need more info

Ctrl-Alt-A does nothing in my AutoCAD

Do you type "Group" at the command line?

It should ask you to select the objects.

Does it do that ?

You can force it to use the old group command by using the command,    classicgroup

That might help you get a better idea of whats going on because it lists all the groups in the drawing. You need to check the include unnamed box to get them all. If you have some mystery groups that are unnamed you can delete them from the pop up window.

HI,

>> Ctl+Alt+A (which supposedly turns group on/off) doesn't turn group on or off, it does nothing... so?????? <<

it's CTRL+SHIFT+A .

i suggest to use CLASSICGROUP command to check if it's appear or what ? also you may have a template that already have this group when you start a new dwg or a some plug-ins or lisp.

Hi @Anonymous,

Can you share your file that is doing this? I am curious how it was built. Did you start with a template that perhaps had some unnamed groups?  If you want to verify that there are non groups you can run a VBA command to delete them.

Also, which version of AutoCAD are you using?

You are correct that the following items I'm trying to group came from an existing template!.... Although they aren't grouped in the template, I get the exact same message within that template when I try to group them in the original file. Its very strange, It's almost like its just a corrupted program and I need to reinstall.

PICKSTYLE variable, what is it set to? Look it up in HELP, it affects groups.

Hi @Anonymous,

Have any of the suggestions worked to resolve this for you?  As Dean suggests, a Pickstyle of 1 or 3 should allow you to select groups.  I am still happy to look at one of your drawings that exhibits this behavior if you can attach it to a post.

Set PICKSTYLE to 1 and now groups work again...

So I used AutoCAD 2017 for 1 Year without any problems (In regards to groups XP). Then one random day aperently the program set PCIKSTYLE to 0 by itself so I had no idea what happened. If this ever happens again, I will assume the program changed my PICKSTYLE setting on me again!

THANKS!
