Grip menu disappears in AutoCAD when mouse cursor moves to it

Hi,

For example when I try to increase the length of a polyline. I hover over the "node", the grip menu appears, but after I move the cursor, the menu disappears.

I read on the Autodesk site, that the solution would be "Reduce the display scale of the screen to 100%" for the problem. But it didn't worked for me.

I read also that it can be caused by the mouse driver, but the problem occures with the use of the built in touchpad too.

What should I do for get the grip menu work?

Thank you for your time.

Hi,

do you have a 4k display?

Can you try to start command _GRAPHICSCONFIG, then turn off hardware acceleration ... if that helps then turn it back on and try the options in that dialog to switch.

Hi,

Thank you for your answer. I think it"s important to note that I use AutoCAD 2017 with Windows 10. And I use a 1080p display (notebook), and a 1920x1200 display in extended mode.

I've tried GRAPHICSCONFIG command that you recommended as a solution but it didn't helped. The same error appeared on ArchiCAD too, it can be related.

When I hover over a grip I get the grip menu, but if I don't pick something in the menu or click the grip again to grab it once I move the cursor so far off the grip the menu disappears. Is it doing something besides that, as I think that is normal behavior.

Hi,

Thank you for your reply. I have the same issue:

https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-civil-3d-forum/shortcut-menu-for-grips-delay-too-short/td-p/5...

If I move the cursor in any direction, even in the direction of the grip menu itself, it disappears after the cursor leaves the "node" ot the pline.

What is your 2017 update version? ABOUT command will tell you in detail.
What is your mouse driver make/version number??

Your issue is not common, quite unusual, so there is something unique to you we do not all have.

command _griphover

set it to like 100. I think that will fix it. I set mine lower and the menu goes away if you barely move the mouse. I set it back to 100 and menu stays up longer.

Thanks. Didn't work for me. But come on, I brought an FHD notebook and a 1920x1200 screen for use it this way, not for spoil the resolution under 1920x1080 (how more of the answers recommend it). 🙂 This really isn't a solution anyway. But thank you very much!

Thank you, unfortunately it didn't work. I also tried _INPUTSEARCHOPTIONS and here to modify the delay time. But no change.

Thank you!

Not a fix, but in case you were unaware. Once you hover over the grip and get menu, you can up and down arrow key through menu and hit enter to pick a menu item. Again not a fix but at least you can use the grip menu if you need too without moving the mouse. Cntl will toggle the selections too once you pick one.

Yes, I'm aware of this I just wanted to bring back the plain old control. 🙂 Thanks again, looks like I will stick to the arrow key method.

I did just see one more suggested fix when using two monitors. Switch which one is set to the primary monitor in windows settings. For some reason that fixed it for some people.

and that's all I got...

Hi,

That's an interesting information, maybe a graphic card driver update (or downgrade) could help.

One question is open: which service pack do you have installed on top of AutoCAD? Please start command _ABOUT and show us the dialog as screenshot.

Hi,

The ArchiCAD problem was unrelated as it turned out: however there wasn't connected my external display, the software put out the needed window to the "external" screen. As soon as I connected a different screen I saw it was on the blank desktop. So it was the mistake of the ArchiCAD sw.

As a matter of version, I have the 2017.1.2. update.

Hi,

thx for your screenshot, shows us your AutoCAD is up-to-date!

>> however there wasn't connected my external display

So you do have 2 displays ... have you tried AutoCAD to run on both displays, does the grip disappearing behavior happen on both displays?

Hi,

last idea before starting to revert to older display drivers:

When you login to your system with a new Windows user account (an account, that have not had AutoCAD started yet), same problem?

Hi @sysyka!

Have you tried increasing the Crosshair Size _CURSORESIZE & Grip size _GRIPSIZE?

Hi,

Thank you, this helped. I created a new profile and there worked the grip menu just fine. This problem must be a wrong AutoCAD sysvar value, right? Maybe I should set AutoCAD to default settings on the other profile.

Thank you, I think this might work!
