I have turned off Grid Snap, but after each new command Grid Snap turns itself back on. This did not happen before today. The normal route of turning Grid Snap off using Snap Mode, or Snap Settings does not keep Grid Snap from turning active by itself again.

HI @Anonymous,
I see that you are visiting as a new member to the AutoCAD forum. Welcome to the Autodesk Community!
Is it possible to make a quick Screencast of this behavior? Please also verify that your AutoCAD 2018 is fully updated form your desktop app or from your account page.
If you use the F7 key to toggle it on or off does that allow you to work normally?
Please select the Accept as Solution button if my post solves your issue or answers your question.
Problem solved. Manually turning it off did not allow the change to stick, but pressing F7 resolved the issue. Thanks for the help!
This response may provide some additional information on this behavior. In my case (using Civil 3D 2020), during an active command like for example a polyline, the cursor would try to snap to some invisible grid even with osnap off, snap off, etc.. Very annoying.
Tried turning off snap, messing with all the settings related to osnap/osnapmode, etc. Nothing worked. Anyway, long story short. If everything else fails, try setting the UCSDETECT variable to 0, especially for drawings with surfaces or other 3D objects, because that is what it is trying to snap to. It worked for me. Thanks.
I'm stumped. Had to close the drawing and not save it to get mine back to normal. 😒

Partially in response to earlier Messages, too:
Do/did you have 3D Osnap turned on, even with 2D Osnap turned off [circled in red]?
Well, I didn't know I had one of those buttons (3D OSNAP) and still don't have one on my screen..... I do like the F3 so maybe I hit F4 instead. Much of my time with C3D is spent struggling so it's just another day.

Pick the "hamburger" button at far lower right, and you can choose whether or not the 3D Osnap icon appears in the status bar.
For those looking for the 3D OSNAP button, I had to change my workspace settings from Civil 3D to 3D Modeling to see it in the burger button. After switching back to Civil 3D, I still have it and can see when it is toggled on or off with the F4 button.
THanks @Kent1Cooper
