Freezing when switching from model space to paper space "not responding"

I just had AutoCAD 2015 installed (also Vault 2015). Ever since, I've had random problems where CAD would freeze "not responding" when switching from model space to paper space or paper to model; or even paper space tab to another paper space tab. Result is "save", attempt, freeze, "end task",

restart AutoCAD. I think I found a solution in the help search: set WHIPTHREAD to 3 and set LAYOUTREGENCTL to 2. I'm going to try this and see what happens???

Sometimes the printer driver is the culprit, when you change the layout the printer driver get's initialized, and there are special drivers which then check the ink, the paper, current print jobs, memory and some more.
What you describing could fit to such a problem. So how can you verify that:

• one test is to disconnect your workstation from the network, so the printer-drivers can't find the server/the plotter
• test2 (if your layout-settings are pointing to a PC3 file) is to rename the PC3 file so the layout does not find them any more (that brings an error message, but let's see if switching between the layouts is then faster)
• another test is to open one of the drawings, go through every layout and change the printer to e.g. the "DWG to PDF.pc3" or to "DWF6 ePlot.pc3", save the drawing, close AutoCAD, restart it and load this new drawing, how's about layout changing now?
