Flexible Duct

Can anyone tell me a step by step way to draw flexible duct in Autocad Lt 2015. Ideally from converting a polyline.

I have tried copying commands on forums but have had no luck.

If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated because I have ran out of ideas.

You have tried copying commands on forums but have had no luck because that command probably is a command that run an autolisp and LT can't do that.

Welcome to the Forums

These are the forums for full Autocad you need http://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-lt-general-discussion/bd-p/43

But as to your question how flexible is it. Is it going to be straight with right angle bends?

If so you can do it with a polyline. Start your polyline and when you get to where it bends press A for ARC and draw your arc then press L for line to go back to straight lines

You can also OFFSET your polyine so you only have to draw it once.

Can you post a drawing so we can have a look?

I have attached an example of the sort of the thing im trying to achieve. However not always at right angles, on site it can be striaght, slightly bent or curved.

Can you please repost the image as a jpeg.

If you draw your duct as lines and arcs (which I'm assuming you do) you can then make them into a polyline by using PEDIT.

PEDIT

M

Select all your objects

CONVERT LINES AND ARCS TO POLYINE. Y (for YES)

J for JOIN.

Then your lines and arcs become one polyline

Yup, It's autolisp and  LT can't do it.

It would take you forever to draw that in LT. You need to upgrade your software to $4000 AutoCAD or $6000 MEP AutoCAD to get the correct tools or add-ins you found on the Internet or wherever.

Are you creating contract documents for a builder or contractor? The MEP engineering pros simply provide a curved Pline or Spline single line representation of a flex duct and put a note next to it calling it a flex duct. Nobody draws it like your image except maybe in high school or freshman year in college.

Kimberly,

There is no need on an HVAC plan to be that detailed when drawing flex duct.  Try this.  Draw the centerline of your flex duct in whatever curvy shape you want using polylines.  Change the global width of the polyline to the flex duct size.  Then change the linetype to dot or dot2.   Voila.

That does seem over-literal compared to what is usually done in construction drawings.  I use something that's like a more-tightly-zigzagged ZIGZAG linetype, available [with an image of what it draws] here.
