Files to Back Up Before Uninstalling

I'm reinstalling my AutoCAD and I couldn't find any helpful information about how to save my custom settings, commands, LISP, and other files properly.

I think this post can help others to do so.

  1. Save your customized USER INTERFACE.
  2. Save your customized TOOL PALETTE.
  3. Save your command list file (notepad format):
    • MANAGE tab.
    • CUSTOMISATION pallet.
    • EDIT ALIASES.
    • Save as.
  4. Save your customized DWG templates.
  5. Save your customized plotting style (pen assignment).
  6. Locate your LISP and script files and save it.

We can add to this list if others would like to share their experience into this form, thanks!

Hi,

keep backups of your own file every time.

Custom files shouldn't be saved in AutoCAD program folders,

or you have backups - what is common for all stuff.

A.  Run 'export custom settings'

  1. Save your customized USER INTERFACE.
  2. Save your customized TOOL PALETTE.

B. Your linked source .dwg files are not included, but there is no need to save them, if stored well (not in an autocad folder)

  1. Save your command list file (notepad format):
    • MANAGE tab.
    • CUSTOMISATION pallet.
    • EDIT ALIASES.
    • Save as.

  1. Save your customized DWG templates.
  2. Save your customized plotting style (pen assignment).
  3. Locate your LISP and script files and save it.

If stored well (not in an autocad folder)  no need.

Find and tell us exceptions I forgot.

-

Custom files:

save them outside of native autocad files.

Customized native autocad files/location, are part of the export .zip package.

-

Export custom settings

create a .zip file. You can open or unpack it to see&understand what's inside.

Test it, one export with, another export without network locations
