FATAL ERROR: Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0xffffffff

I am getting FATAL ERROR:  Unhandled Access Violation Reading 0xffffffff Exception at e9c06d12h trying to edit table objects in ACAD 2015 in this one file.

I have tried every thing I can think of including Audit , Purge, Wblock it out, updated the video drivers,etc.

It is attached here for you to play. Sometimes I can add a few rows before it crashes.

I was able to add 6 lines with no crashing or other problems, then I saved.

Do you have SP1 or SP2 installed?

They were a lot of stability issues addressed in the service packs

Hi,

what I can see is that you have saved the drawing with an earlier version of DWG-format.
Don't do that with files you are working with!

You can try to run command _WBLOCK with option "Entire Drawing" (to create a new file in the current release!) and try it again in that new DWG file.

Yes both SP1 & SP2 are installed. Like I said in the 1st post sometimes it takes a few edits but it always seems to crash. I have also tried this on at least 4 different machines & 2 were logged in with admin rights.

Tried the Wblock method...no joy.

I have'nt been saving down to an earlier format, this is a drawing that originated in 2012. We have since upgraded to 2015 & need to edit the file...I guess I should have mentioned this earlier (my bad).

Do you have some exact steps that brings your AutoCAD to crash? If so record the screen e.g. to >>>Autodesk Screencast<<< ... so we can try the exact same steps with our workstations.

It might also be wort to try to disable the graphic hardware acceleration.

Additional questions: what OS do you have, what graphic card and driver do you have?

Hi RAMasterson, 

Were you able to create a screencast of reproducible steps, and gather the additional information Alfred requested? I also tested the drawing (editing the tables, moving tables, changing formatting, etc.) for a period of time and was uanble to reproduce this crash. 

In addition to hardware acceleration, there are some other Windows settings and services that can interfere with AutoCAD performance. Please make these optimization changes:  Optimize performance within Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 Environments

My situation is such that I am going to be working remotely until after the christmas holiday and the Screencast app won't allow me to create a video capture via an RDP connection.

I was hoping to try to make a Screencast last Tuesday (my last day at my office), but i just didn't get a chance.

I will get this done at my first oppurtunity though. Meanwile, my user having the issue recreated the tables from scratch just to get the project out the door.

A solution would be nice as I assume this issue will rear it's ugly head again when we need to edit a table on an older project in the future.

Hi all,

I am finally back in my office and was able to create a screencast of the issue as requested by Alfred. As you can see in the video it can take a while to cause the error, but it will always happen eventually. Behaviour is the same on multiple machines, all running ACAD 2015.

The file is in the original post if you want to take a look. BTW...this file was originally created in ACADMEP 2012.

well, thx for the video, and yes, it was reproducable with your initial drawing and on my system as well.

What I tried: when you add a row, then deselect the table and start again with select it and add a row I have not got a crash. I know that deselecting and reselecting is not the best solution, but at least (for me and just 2 tests) it worked.

I've created a CER with the wording "FATAL ERROR RAMasterson" (and the link to this forum-thread) in the description so you might find out some equalities for my crash and the ones from RAMasterson in the CER-reports.

I can "edit" your table objects with no issues here in R2015 SP1: your 2010 format file opens fine here. Is there a specific table or cell that crashes?

Is your issue exclusive to this one file and it's table objects?

It is'nt specific to any one cell or to this one file, but does seem to be specific to files containing tables that were originally created in earlier versions. i.e. this file was created in 2012. Files created entirely in 2015 do not have the issue.

The machines are up to date with SP1, are Dell Precision T3400 with 12gb ram, Win 7 (x64), Nvidia Quadro FX570 (with latest driver fro Adesk)

Like I said in an earlier post, I tried audit, revover, purge (with regapps), open & save in 2015, and reopen. What I had the user do is re-create the tables nativly in 2015 as a work around for this project, but I know this is going to popup again, so I just was looking for attack plan when it does.

Alfred was able to reproduce the issue so I don't think its our hardware (I would assume his machine is fully patched & capable).

Anyway, thanks for any insight/help

Trying to add rows in one table only in your file (while maintaining 2010 format) is your trigger to crash, correct? If so AutoCAD does lock-up here (then crashes) after about a dozen adds in a single table.

Simply saving your file to 2013 format seems to have stopped it from crashing.

FYI, we dont't mix DWG-format AutoCAD versions here (aka avoid relying on saving down) as these types of issues often get ignored by Autodesk from what I can tell over the dozens of years I've used their products. Don't wait for a fix... .

We're not really mixing versions here either, but we do have to work on older projects once in a while with new versions of the software. We don't keep older versions of ACAD on the machines after we upgrade to the latest. We keep the previous 3 versions of Revit since we don't have a choice with the no save back capability, but that another story for another day.

Anyway, I will do some testing with your advice with the saving up to 2013 & see how it goes.

I believe I have the same case here.

Inserting rows to table causes fatal error. It does not happen immediately, but after repeating the operation for a few times the crash eventually happens.

After reopening the drawing I can insert a couple of rows again at desired place, but then again it crashes. This is the case with all my drawings and has been present at least since release 2014 (now I'm on 2016). I'm using Civil 3D.

After purgeing drawings and emptying Windows temp folder the work with tables has stabilized.

I get the error when trying to add a row that has columns merged. If I unmerge first and then add the row ... no problems.

Experiencing similar problem...using C3D 2015...created tables with a few column containing fields...trying to edit cells (adding rows). Have some columns that are merged, so I tried unmerging before adding row. A little success, but still eventually crashes with same error. Service Pak 3 installed. Has anyone found a lasting solution in the past few years?
