Extruding a surface by its centre

Afternoon,

Is there a way to extrude a surface (loft) by its centre and not from the side?

So its in the middle without having to go back and move the "wall" back to the middle?

Thank you.

You mention both Extrude and Loft.  Not sure which one you really mean, and without example file or at least a picture - I assume you mean something like the mid-plane (Symmetric) Extrusion in Autodesk Inventor.

I don't think there is a way to do that in one step in Autodesk AutoCAD.

If this doesn't really describe your design intent - please provide more information.

Hi,

if it's really an open surface you can try:

  • set DELOBJ to 0 so it will not be erased after command _THICKEN
  • run command _THICKEN with a positive value
  • run command _THICKEN with a negative value

creates 2 solids from your "center"-surface to each side.

To be careful: as every type of offset it might happen, that you can't UNION then both objects. This depends on the situation(s).

Here you can see a black surface, a green 3D-Solid created with a positive value and a red 3D-Solid created with a negative value for command _THICKEN
