Extruded Profile around a curve Rotates

Good morning everyone,

 

I'm attempting to create a tunnel solid using a tunnel cross-sectional profile and a centreline path. I am using the command EXTRUDE and selecting PATH.

 

The centreline represents the mid point of the tunnel and the peak of the profile is always directly above the centreline. When extruding along a straight path (i.e. no deviation in the direction) the extruded solid comes out as expected. When the profile goes around the curve, the peak comes out of position and tends to lean away from the centre of the curve and results in a twisted/rotated extrusion.

 

IS there any way to ensure that the profile stays in the proper orientation.

 

any help would be appreciated.

Hi,

 

"A picture is worth a thousand wordsi wish if you attache an image that describe your issue . BUT ( as a try ) make sure that your 3D model is very near from 0,0,0 when extruding.

Hopefully the pictures I have added help you.

 

the only method that gets close to what i want is when i explode the curve to line segments - then it doesn't have a problem. However, i now have gaps in my curve.

 

The red vertical line must stay above the centreline when the profile extrudes. Obviously extrusion is affected by curves so I hope there is a way to resolved this in vanillacad.

I tried SWEEP but not familiar with its controls. i still got undesired results with it. Are you familiar with SWEEP. i'll look it up for more information.

Use only one path and explore the sweep options. Don't have them in English yet but one has to deal with this rotation along.

Sorry Alfred,

 

attached is a 2013 drawing with my declines and a profile face to also use. The block in the drawing is called Decline_Face.

You 'd better modelize 2 paths at least and use _LOFT !

It would mean that you have set the profile at the beginning and at the end.

2 profiles / 2 gides at least and the _LOFT command.

 

I can see that you know how to set a profile perpendicular to the path. Won't be too hard for you !

PS : drawing other 3Dpolys is less easy but needed
