Hello everyone.

I have AutoCAD 2013 and often "paste special" excel files that automatically update when the excel file changes.

The problem I'm running into is I work with a person who has uses an older version of CAD 2004, so I always save to the older format for him.

When I etransmit, I be sure to add the excel file, but when he opens the dwg, only the outline of the excel appears in his dwg, no content.

Any thoughts?

Just a thought as I don't use Etransmit, Are the excel files saved down to 2003 format?

Are you sure that 2004 supports that feature? Is he able to "paste special" his own Excel files?

Are you sure the recipient has all files in the exact same folder?
If they double-click on the outline, does their AutoCAD session note something is missing or does it open Excel?
Can they open your Excel documents? In Excel?
If they try and relink them, does it work?

It's saved as a Microsoft Excel 97-2003 Worksheet.

That's a good question. I'll ask.

I would say yes to exact same folder, since it's all pulled from the same zip folder.
I'll ask if their AutoCAD session produces a note when double clicking.
I'll ask if they can open my excel docs using excel - good question.
I'll also ask about relinking.
Good questions that I'll report back with.

It almost 10 years different from 2004, there are a lot of special features of 2013 version that cannot be supported by 2004 CAD Version. Try to use copy and paste as OLE, or make an image file and then attach it (e.g. JPG,Jpeg, TIFF, PNG. etc.)
