error in pattern file

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

I've just migrated from AutoCad 2020 to AutoCad 2021. I have copied the Acadiso.pat file and added the location to the support file search path. The same file worked fine in AutoCad 2020. Now AutoCad 2021 gives an error "error in pattern file" when I select the custom made hatch patterns in the hatch dialog box. Why is this happening and what can I do to fix it?

Accepted solution

Avery long shot:

Try deleting the blank line at line #405 in acadiso.txt or placing a semi-colon at the beginning of that line.

Although AFAIK this is undocumented I have heard empty lines in pattern files, other than at end-of-file, will trigger this error.

BTW the file is normally named ACADISO.PAT for proper operation.

Hi Hugh,

The solution to remove the blank line works. Thanks. I was back using 2020. Strange that the update should cause this error.

Thanks,

It was a blank line in the file.

No worries. Happy to have a suspicion verified.

This seems a new hurdle for fill file acceptance. Without doing tests with
old versions that I do not have to hand it is difficult to determine where
or when it first appeared but I'm minded it was within a year ago. Best
just accept it as another strange limitation to go with all the others that
make little sense such as the 80 character line length limit and move on.

best,
Hugh
