Error - Duplication and Recovery

This has now happened twice so thought I should ask for some advise.

Today I had almost finished a Ground floor plan, simple lines, few furniture/door blocks and a bit of solid hatching.  There is a simple Xref inserted showing the structural grid but that is it.  I went to save the drawing and it popped up with a dialog box recommending recovery.  As I had nearly finished I thought I would just trim the last few lines then do this and when I trimmed a few lines and zoomed out it had duplicated all of my layers!?  When a selected by highlighting over the items left to right and unselecting 1 using shift there was 68 lines deleted(which were duplicates of a line within an xref), then I highlighted a table and chairs block and over 1500 were deleted.  This is not something i've done but believe it to be an error within 2015 or on my computer.  When I recovered the drawing some duplicates changed colour.
