Ellipse trimming not working well

I can trim a line, circle, or polyline multiple times as it disappears behind multiple objects, but it doesn't seem to work well or at all most times with ellipses.  When I choose my trim line or lines to trim the ellipse between, it cannot seem to find the endpoints of the ellipse or the point in between 2 boundaries.  Even when I try to select the ellipse, it doesn't always recognize the ellipse piece I've dragged across with left-drag or encompassed with right-drag.  Why is this happening?

would you please show us your case as an image ? also you may check if EDGEMODE system variable = 1  and see if any changes.
