Editing Custom Field Text

I've created several custom text fields:

When I insert the field in the mtext editor I see the contents of the field with a gray background as expected.  When I right click on the field and choose "Edit Field..." I get this box:

I can place the cursor in the box that displays the contents of the field and I can highlight the text but cannot edit the the text.  Is there a way to edit the field contents without going back to File/Drawing Properties/Custom?

You cannot "override" a FIELD and it stay a FIELD: just EXPLODE it to be TEXT then edit away as you wish to do since editing the source is not an option for you.

That information only flows in one direction.

You can just type the DWGPROPS command to open the drawing properties dialog. Itll be quicker than going through the file menues.
