DWT not opening correctly

I don't have much experience with AutoCAD. I'm sorry if this is a noob mistake. I'm an engineering student and I need to make a bunch of schematics of systems for an internship I'm doing. My college provided me with a template that contains all of the symbols I will need for the schematic such as symbols for pumps, valves, etc so I can quickly copy and paste them into my drawing. When I open this template from the layout menu, only the viewport layout the school gave me opens, not the symbols in the model space. I really don't want to have to make all these symbols myself.

Have you try to check it from Model space layout ?!!

Yes the symbols don't show up in modelspace.

hello instead of open select new and change file of type to DWT.
