Dwg to pdf

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi,

I am trying to convert layouts from DWG to PDF however after numerous attempts the only thing showing are the lines I plotted in paper source... No plan, elevations nor text are showing.

I tried over-riding the original plot settings however, as I am quite new to AC I'm not sure if this was a right or wrong thing to do... either way it did nothing to help the situation.

Thanks in advance for any advise, suggestions.

Regards,

Katie 🙂

hi,

have you check drawing layer

if your dwg layer will be in defpoint it will not plotted.

if some layer properties are lock in for print then also it will not plotted.

upload your drawing then we can explain proper.

Dear Mr. mygulfgem

It could be more predictable and easier to find solution if you could attach your files which has got problem..

Thanks for your response to my issue, unfortunately I have no idea how to
take a screenshot from AC.

a quick and simple way is to hit the print screen button. this button is usually some where around the page up/ page down home / end etc etc buttons. Once you have hit print screen you can past your image (ctrl+v) into Microsoft paint (or other program) and save the picture. Then you can attach the photo here.

another way (in microsoft) is the snipping tool or similar screen capture software.

If you will be needing a video capture Autodesk has thier screencast software which is great and might be worth downloading (its free). https://knowledge.autodesk.com/community/screencast

as suggested providing the dwg will help understand whats going on. Also could you walk us through the steps you are taking to try to plot to PDF.

Thank you. I have adobe reader.... would that work instead of downloading
more stuff such as MS Paint?

Can you tell me does AC 2017 automatically create PDF files or, do I need
to download a PDF converter?

I can tell you a little more in the hope it might help you in resolving
this issue; when I create the layout from the model to export, everything
is there, then when I preview the screen before exporting to PDF the only
thing showing is the plan, title border but, no dimensions. I was wondering
if I might need to change the size of my annotative text.... however, this
makes no sense as others sent very large files to PDF and mine is a little
floor plan, nothing major at all.....

I do appreciate your time, thank you again.

Kind Regards,
Katharine

Paint usualy is already installed on windows systems. Adobe reader only allows you to look at things not create them so i dont believe adobe reader will work.

AutoCAD does have built in PDF printers. That is to say you can create PDFs with stock AutoCAD.

There are a couple things which could cause your issue. Have you looked into the layer setting as has previously suggested in the thread?

Layer setting.... I didn't see a comment regarding layers... I will look at
this.

I have for example, a text layer, and a viewport layer etc, my text layer
was a little light in color 'cyan' in layout view and I did switch over to
the viewport layer 'dark blue' thinking this would resolve the visual
issue, which it did however, maybe not so much considering I cannot see the
text when trying to convert to PDF....

I have a question if you don't mind..... In model space everything is
created to full scale I believe 1:100/1.1 (Please correct me if I am wrong
to think this).

When I created the annotative text I also set up scale 1:100, 1:50 and 1:20
within the model space; I did this to be sure I could use my draft in any
of those scales when converting to a PDF... It just hasn't worked out as
I'd planned though.

@Anonymous suggested layers in the first response to your thread.

A quick look at the layers manager :https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/learn-explore/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2016/ENU/AutoC...

Pay particular attention to the plot option.

It is good practice to set model space 1:1 but it can be changed to what ever ratio you like. Paper space (again in good practice) should be the place where the scale is changed to manage annotations.

Could you provide the DWG so we can ferrit out the exact nature of your problem?

screen capture has been an app since WIndows7 way back when, here is how you use it https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/13776/windows-use-snipping-tool-to-capture-screenshots

Now why not post the DWG file so we can all figure it out for you?

Please find attached two screen shots. As you can see the text is fine in
paper source (the same for model space) however, when I attempt to set it
up the text no longer shows as can be seen via the attached preview.

Thanks again,
Katharine

Hi There,

Can you please elaborate what you mean by 'if current layer is on defpoint it won't be plotted'?
