@Anonymous hello, what do you mean cannot convert dwg to pdf. you need to plot your dwg in pdf printer before you can get pdf files.OR you can export as pdf files.

That usually means you either did not use a valid pagesetup or your files contain no usable layouts.

Are you new to using AutoCAD? Or get a new PC/AutoCAD version and your program/ files are not set up correctly? Or are you trying to convert DGN files or something else?

Hi @Anonymous,

Welcome to the Autodesk Community!

It appears that you want to convert AutoCAD drawing (DWG) files into a PDF format. Which version of AutoCAD are you using because there might be some subtle differences in how you do this.

At any rate, you can do an Export to PDF or you can Plot/Publish to PDF. The method you choose will depend on your desired results. The plot and Export are mostly used for one-off results (IMHO).

Most important in getting any of these methods to work is to configure a pagesetup with a PC3 file.

  • Starting with the PC3, type plot and you will see a dialog pop up.Click Add to create a new page setup and give it a name so you can save this configuration for later use.
  • Next, select your Plot Style Table which controls how the lineweights and colors will be handled.
  • Then in the Printer/Plotter field, select one of the PDF drivers. I like to use the AutoCAD PDF - General Documentation PC3.
  • If you select this then you will seee a PDF Options button that allows you to configure how your layers and fonts will be handled in the PDF.
  • Finally, select paper size, area to plot, scale, and other options available in the plot window.
  • Save all of this by clicking OK.

Now, when you apply this page setup to your layout that you want to convert to a PDF, you should then be able to plot to PDF quite easily or use Publish (for one or more layouts and drawings) and use this Page setup to configure the PDF output.
