Help please.

I lost the DWG file preview in windows explorer after I installed the eDrawings viewer

Autocad 2019 installed,

I tried to uninstall eDrawings, it did not help to recover the preview.

The preview was good before the eDrawings installed.

Thank you in advance.

Hi,

I suggest to make sure Windows is set to display thumbnails . Folder options >> View tab .

Thank you for the reminder.

Yes, the Preview Pane is ON.

The PDF file has a preview in Preview Pane.

There is probably a registry hack for this but other than that repair AutoCAD should fix it.

Thanks.

This happened only after I installed eDrawings.

I would not like to uninstall / reinstall Autocad because there are lots of customized settings and addins.

A repair of AutoCAD should not affect your custom settings.

Otherwise this might help: DWG file type associativity in Windows.

Make sure that edrawings is not set as the default program for any of the ACAD file types (dwg, dxf, etc...) .

Thanks.

How to check this :

"Make sure that edrawings is not set as the default program for any of the ACAD file types (dwg, dxf, etc...) ."

You can find Windows 10 default program settings by getting into settings-> default apps.

You can also right click a drawing file itself and select "open with", then make sure to fill in the check box for "always us this program" and choose AutoCAD to open that drawing.  The Windows default will be set immediately and you may see icons refresh.  This might restroe the image preview for ya.

I have tried all above suggestions, including run Autocad 2019 repair. But NO luck so far. Still NO preview for dwg files.

Any other ways to suggest?

Thanks.

Read this https://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/autocad/troubleshooting/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/DWG-th...

If everything there does not help, but opening them SAVING a few DWG files fixes only those files previews, then your system is hosed with that 3rd party app. You'll have to start over with using QSAVE on each file moving forward.

Anyone have a definitive solution? I have exhausted every suggested fix here and still no DWG preview. I am not getting a "No Preview Available", just a blank preview window.

If this did not fix it https://forums.autodesk.com/t5/autocad-forum/dwg-file-no-preview-available-in-windows-explorer/m-p/1...

Then...  start a support ticket through your subscription portal as explained here https://knowledge.autodesk.com/customer-service/account-management/users-software/support-options#:~....
