drawing visible when layer is inactive

I have a drawing where I loaded 3 external references. Each reference is loaded in a seperate layer (xref A --> layer A, ..)

When I deactivate all my layers, I still see my external references. How can I make sure that when I deactivate everything, my modelspace is empty?

Kind regards

I whould say: Impossible

but we are in Autodesks world and there is nothing impossible.

Perhaps you are talking about non-AutoDESK Objects?

What's you Product name and version?

Command: ABOUT

Please use this command (type in and select the visible Object)  and post the result:

Command: (progn(setq e (entget(car(nentsel))))(alert (strcat(cdr(assoc 8 e))"-"(itoa(cdr(assoc 70 (entget(tblobjname"LAYER"(cdr(assoc 8 e))))))))))

Hi,

>> When I deactivate all my layers

What means "deactivate"?

You can turn a layer off, or freeze a layer (and in case you are inside a layout/viewport you can use option VP-Freeze).

I guess you have just turned off a layer instead of freezing it ... try that.

HI,

With deactivate, I mean I clicked on the light bulb. In my case all the layers are unlocked, thawn and deactivated. However I still can see the xref's.

product version: P.46.0.0 Autocad 2019

result of 2th question: 196007D_A91_AXXX-xref +91/2238_AR_990Guides-axes-Snedes-48

Your Acad is not up2date, P.46.0.0, is 4 updates old

Please install the latest update (from your account)

Either you do not have set ALL Layers off, or there a something special.

For plain AutoCAD: In 99% the User statement is wrong in such cases..

This clicked object should display if layer 196007D_A91_AXXX-xref +91|2238_AR_990Guides-axes-Snedes is set to off.

It is unusual to set ALL layers off.

And the normal property for 'remove from display' is Freeze (ON/OFF us useful for special block/Xref structures)

ETRANSMIT to share a sample incl. all needed external files?

Hi,

There does not exist a setting for "deactivated"

And to this suggestion I gave:

>> I guess you have just turned off a layer instead of freezing it

Simply ignored it, why?

Hi

As I said: in my layer property manager I clicked on the light bulb on all my layers (--> so my layers are not active --> deactivated?!?)

I didn't 'simply ignore' your suggestion Alfred, as a matter of test I turned all my layers off (light bulb out), and all my layers are unfrozen (sun is shining) and unlocked (lock is open).

I will update my version and see if that helps, sorry to have asked

Improper terminology sometimes makes it hard to understand the question. If you don't know the proper terminology it is also going to make hard for you to understand the answers. This is a technical forum and correct terminology is important.

Instead of deactivated, say turned off.

What happens if you freeze all the layers instead of turning them off?

Share screen shots  of your layer manager and your drawing or better yet post the drawing.

Drafting is a breeze and Revit doesn't always work the way you think it should.

Please FREEZE the layers, so the sun is NOT shining.

light-bulb is OFF
You want the icon next to it, FREEZE.

Try it now.

You may have your Layer Manager and pull-down list set this way:

LayersAllNonXref.png

in which case you can't see the Xref-dependent Layers to turn them off.  Change it to showing All  Layers:

LayersAll.png

and you will be able to turn the Xref-dependent Layers off, too.

But I fully concur with others that Freezing  the Layers that the Xref's are referenced on is the better way, because you don't need to deal with the Xref-dependent Layers on their own.

hi all

Ok, my bad. I try to use the proper terminology but it's not always easy when English is not your native language.

However I understand why freezing is the better option in this situation. Thank you for your help.
