Drag n drop opening of drawing not working in 2nd copy of AutoCAD 2024

In CAD22 (& all earlier versions I’ve used) If you have 2 copies of CAD open, one on each of my 2 screens, so you could have your working drawing open in front of you & a ref. drawing/s open in the 2nd copy for borrowing stuff from rather than have to waste time toggling through multiple open drawings in just 1 copy of CAD. You could always drag & drop a drawing file onto the default home screen in the 2nd copy of CAD & it would open in that copy of CAD. However, 2024 doesn’t seem to want to do this. I’ve tried it & it always open the 2nd ref. drawing in the 1st copy of CAD opened that day, even if dropped onto the default home screen of the 2nd copy.

Anyone else found this? Or more importantly, anyone found a setting I've missed or a fix for this, as it’s annoying!

Hi and welcome to AutoCAD Forum...

I think this has more to do with a factor ...  Windows + AutoCAD 2024 handle file associations and because SD=0 (multi-document interface). This matter may not be solved directly, as it is subject to the circumstances in which you work and also to trial and error through which you may arrive at something.

Just been playing at dragging a drawing file to various places all over the blank 2nd copy of CAD home screen, and found that if you drag the drawing file you want to open to the very top line of the 2nd copy, to where it says “Autodesk AutoCAD 2024” & release, it will open in the 2nd copy of CAD. Also, if you have the drawing tab line visible & not turned off as I do, dropping the file onto the tab line also works I've been told.
