DOCK INLINE WITH STATUS BAR funky behavior

Anonymous
Not applicable

In AutoCAD 2016 when I choose "Dock Inline with Status Bar" by right clicking on a model or layout tab it doesn't stay docked.

Here's what happens. I have my AutoCAD window maximized.  I choose "Dock Inline with Status Bar" from a model or layout tab.  As soon as I use the Pan or Move command the model and layout tabs undock and raise above the status bar, even though the AutoCAD window is maximized.  I am only using one model and one layout tab.

Here's the funky thing: if my AutoCAd window is not maximized it stays docked with the status bar.

How do I make it persistent?

I can't reproduce this issue.

Have you tried restarting AutoCAD to see if the problem goes away then?  If that doesn't work, you could try to Reset AutoCAD to Defaults, but note that will wipe out all of your customizations and AutoCAD will have to be reconfigured from scratch.

Work:  AutoCAD 2022.1.3, Windows 10 Pro v22H2 64-bit, Intel Core i7-8700K, 32GB RAM, Samsung 960 Pro SSD, AMD Radeon Pro WX 5100, 3 Dell Monitors (3840x2160)

Restarting didn't help. Not worth the trouble to Reset.
Thank you.

I wonder if there's a system variable that would force it to stay docked.

Whatever variable controlling it appears to not be sticking, which is why I suggested the Reset.  I know it's overkill and, like you said, not worth the trouble of it, but that's the only thing I can think of that would reset that value in the Windows Registry.

I don't have any other ideas as to why this would be happening.  I would report it to Autodesk through your Autodesk Account (if you're on subscription).  If you don't have subscription support, then report it here:

I have the exact same issue on my desktop computer. When the window is maximized (which it is by default) the status jumps up and down with the pan command. I have a 27" monitor so I want my AutoCAD window as big as I can get it. Has anyone found a solution which doesn't involve using autocad non-maximised? Chris

When I right click on any of my tabs (model, work, layout, doesn't matter) the "Dock Inline with Status Bar" option is greyed out and not selectable.  How do I fix this?

Hi,

>> the "Dock Inline with Status Bar" option is greyed out

This happens when there is not enough place to move it down.

When you remove icons from the status bar or make the applicataion window of AutoCAD more wide then the option will get available.

Hi, I'm resurrecting this thread because I have been having this same maddening issue for a long time.

If I select "Dock inline with status bar" from the right-click options menu, it will do that temporarily, but once I start working again it bounces between that and "Dock above status bar", and in the process it moves the main drafting window up and down and I feel like I'm playing whack-a-mole trying to pick objects and edit.

All the super-obvious suggestions mentioned above do not solve the issue.

Does anyone know how to force that thing to stay?  Screenshot attached.

The only way I found to get it to work properly was with having AutoCAD non-maximised but filling the entire screen. As soon as I hit the maximise button, it would start doing it again.

Hi @schurthing,

I just found this variable STATUSBARAUTOWRAP

Try setting the value to OFF and let me know if that helps correct the issue.

Hey wow @john.vellek, that worked! Wish I can "Accept as Solution", but it's not my thread.

That is a super-secret sysvar! A search in the AutoCAD help and Google turned up nothing. Thanks for sharing it!

I have the same issue is 2018, I unchecked everything on my status bar and it is still toggling up and down. I typed in STATUSBAR and set it to "0" and that seems to work but I still use some of the options on the status bar.
