Do large feature lines slow down files and add to file size?

Hello,

I have a huge civil site that I'm doing a Master Plan of.   I made a surface and then cut multiple alignments through the site to make profiles.    My next steps are to add road crossings to the profiles.

My road edges have been copied to a feature line layer and converted into large polylines.   I can now create feature lines from objects then project the feature line as a crossing to the profile.   The feature lines will be long/huge.   They take a while to create.   No big deal but will this slow my file down going forward?

Should I rather just make many small feature lines just where the road edge crosses the alignment?  This would take longer drafting wise but may help file performance.

Thoughts?   Thanks.

Are you using C3d, Map3D, or just plain AutoCAD?
Are you using XREFs at all? I could not tell from your description.

Civil 3D

I'm working in a PR file with one EX file attached.   The existing topography surface lives in EX but has been brought into the PR via a data shortcut.

I'm establish the feature line elevation for the road edges by assigning elevations from this existing surface.

Is this the proper workflow for a large site?
