DISPLAY PLOT STYLES

Anonymous
Not applicable

For some reason some of my files are displaying as black and white in Layout view. The files display as they should in color in model space. This was an earlier question and I'm having same problem. I know how to revert back to color. My problem is when finished with drawing, I save and close. But when I come back to the same drawing, it opens in black and white, again. My questions is this: is there a setting or button to disable this from happening?

Do you have the DISPLAY PLOT STYLES box checked in the page setup for the layouts?

Good you know how, but you did not tell us so we can't all be sure.

PAGESETUP command has a chack box to turn on/off the display of plot syles: must be applied to each and every tab and layout in each file (it's not a universal setting). If closing the file after you save the changes flips it back then your office or your add-on has implemented a startup that enforces that requirement for you. You will need to start there for a fix.

OKAY, LET ME EXPAND ON THIS. CURRENTLY THE PROBLEM IS OCCURING WHETHER THE DRAWING OPENS IN MODEL OR PAPERSPACE. IN LAYOUT, THERE'S JUST THE TWO TABS. SO I RIGHT CLICK ON MODEL TAB OR LAYOUT TAB, PAGE SETUP MANAGER, MODIFY, UNCHECK DISPLAY PLOT STYLES BOX, OK, THEN CLOSE. SO, TO UNDERSTAND YOUR STATEMENT, I NEED TO REVIEW MY STARTUP PROCEDURE ON MY COMPUTER TO SEE IF THERE'S A SETTING THAT CAN BE DISABLED. CORRECT?

In your first post you said that this is only happening in some files, not all?

*IT IS JUST SOME DRAWINGS. TO CLARIFY, IT DOES IT WHETHER IT OPENS IN
MODEL SPACE OR LAYOUT.*

Correct if the problem is universal: if it's "some files" only, review your procedures and ensure you are properly saving the file in question and opening the exact same one again.

PROCEDURE WISE, ALL IS AS IT SHOULD BE.  THAT'S NOT THE ISSUE, IN THIS CASE.  WHAT I'M NOT GETTING IS AN ANSWER TO MY QUESTION.  WHERE DO I GO, OR LOOK, TO TURN OFF THE DISPLAY PLOT STYLES SO, FOR THIS PARTICULAR JOB, I DON'T HAVE TO KEEP CONVERTING THE B & W BACK TO COLOR USING THE ROUTINE THRU PAGE SETUP MANAGER?  THX.

Display plot styles is set per drawing which is why I wanted to confirm that it was not all files. You haven't said which plot style you are using but I'm guessing that it is monochrome if the drawing shows as black and white. If you change it to acad.ctb in the page setup and then save the drawing, will it honor the setting? If you create a new layout and set it to monochrome plot style but do not check the box for display plot stye, will that layout open normally after you save and then reopen the drawing. Are you using any add on applications with autocad? We haven't been able to tell you what setting to change because if you have the box unchecked in both the model tab and the layout tab, the drawing should stay that way when you save it so there has to be something else going on.

It's time to post a dwg file (with your plot style table) for the rest of us to see the exact problem without influence. Use ETRANSMIT command to bundle the package.

HOPE I DO THIS RIGHT.  ETRANSMIT 1 IS THE BLACK AND WHITE ERROR ONE.  ETRANSMIT 2 IS A NEW DRAWING FOR SCRATCH.

Looks like we covered all of this before for you above, it appears you were not able to follow. Let's do it again with pictures.

So in ETRANSMIT1, in the S2.6M dwg file's MEZZ PLAN layout, if I start PAGESETUP command is shows that you have 'display plot styles' box selected and you are using the HALF_SIZE.CTB file and you have that layout set to DISPLAY PLOT STYLES, that means your all black ctb file is going to show you the layout as all black. You told it to do so.

In ETRANSMIT2, there is a different ctb file being referenced BUT the layout is set to NOT display plot style tables.

*MAYBE I’M STILL NOT FOLLOWING. SO ATTACHED ARE 2 MORE ZIPS. THESE
REPRESENT HOW I START OUR STANDARD IN HOUSE TEMPLATE. ETRANSMIT 1 IS SET
FOR FULL SIZE SHEET (STANDARD.CTB). ETRANSMIT 2 IS SET FOR HALF SIZE SHEET
(HALF SIZE.CTB). IN BOTH CASES, THE “DISPLAY PLOT STYLES” IN PAGE SETUP
MANAGER IS NOT CHECKED. IT COMES IN SET THAT WAY ON NEW SHEETS. AND IN
BOTH CASES, THE PAGE NAME IS SHOWN IN THE PAGE SETUP DIALOGE BOX. ON THE
PROBLEM SHEETS, I CAN’T GET THEM TO STAY LOCKED SAME AS THE SAMPLE SHEETS.
IF I UNCHECK THE DPS BOX, THE PAGE NAME DISAPPEARS. I PUT THE PAGE NAME
BCK IN AND THE DPS BOX TURNS THE CHECK BACK ON. IT’S MY THOUGHT THAT THERE
IS A CLITCH IN THIS PARTICULAR JOB IN THE SHEETS. SO, FOR NOW, I’LL JUST
CREATE NEW SHEETS FROM SCRATCH AND INSERT WORK FROM PROBLEM SHEETS AND THEN
VOID THEM, UNLESS SOMEONE COMES UP WITH AN ANSWER.*

*THX.*

1. Nothing attached.
2. I changed that setting, close and opened your file several time and it does not reset all by itself.
3. You might need to change your base templates to disable the displya plot styles option so when you start with them moving forward those things are not on. You will need to modify your named paagesetups as well.
